PhD defense of the researcher Jon Justo Urrutia with his thesis work entitled «Fracture assessment of notched rocks under different loading and temperature conditions using local criteria», supervised by Jorge Castro González and César Sagaseta Millán. This work was graded with Cum Laude and awarded the International Mention.

Participation in the European Conference of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ECSMGE 2019) that took place in Reykjavik from 1-6 of September, 2019.
3-month research visit (from the 3rd of January to the 8th of April of 2019) at the German university TU Bergakademie Freiberg, with whom we collaborate in the analysis of rock fracture using discrete numerical methods. The research visit was supervised by Prof. Heinz Konietzky.

Preparation of the specimens for the simple compression tests at different temperatures up to 250ºC. These temperatures require the use of suitable strain gauges, cables and adhesive to work at such temperatures. For more information it is recommended to read the tests section.
Participation in the European Rock Mechanics Symposium: EUROCK2018, Geomechanics and Geodynamics of Rock Masses. The symposium took place at Saint Petersburg (Russia) from May 21-25, 2018 and the paper entitled “Comparison between an energetic continuum approach and a local failure criterion for rock fracture predictions” was presented.
Participation in the Workshop for PhD in Civil Engineering (EIDEIC 2018) that took place in Santander on the 16-17th of May 2018, where the work “Rock Fracture in Geothermal Energy Sources” was presented, framed within this National Plan project.
